Pune: Mercedes-Benz India has announced the commencement of local production of the Mercedes Maybach GLS at its world-class manufacturing facility in Pune, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s India strategy.
With this move, India becomes the first market outside the United States to locally manufacture the ultra-luxury SUV, underlining the country’s growing importance within the global Mercedes-Maybach portfolio.

The decision to locally produce the Mercedes Maybach GLS reflects the rising demand for top-end ultra-luxury vehicles in India and reinforces the brand’s focus on offering exclusive products tailored for discerning customers.

India now ranks among the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach, supported by sustained customer preference for high-end luxury SUVs.
Since its India debut in June 2021, the Mercedes Maybach GLS has emerged as one of the most aspirational ultra-luxury SUVs in the country, consistently witnessing strong demand.
Until now retailed as a completely built unit (CBU), the shift to local manufacturing is expected to enable faster delivery timelines while enhancing accessibility for customers seeking the pinnacle of luxury and craftsmanship.
Mercedes-Benz India stated that the local production initiative further demonstrates its manufacturing agility and commitment to delivering world-class quality while responding efficiently to customer expectations in the top-end vehicle segment.
Strong 2025 Performance Anchored by Top-End Vehicles
The announcement comes as Mercedes-Benz India reported its best-ever revenue performance in calendar year 2025, delivering 19,007 vehicles.
The Top-End Vehicles portfolio, including Mercedes-Maybach, AMG models, and the S-Class, recorded 11% year-on-year growth and accounted for 25% of total sales.

The Mercedes Maybach GLS, alongside other flagship models, played a key role in strengthening the brand’s dominance in the ultra-luxury SUV category, supported by robust demand across metropolitan and emerging luxury markets.
